Scan a barcode to add an item

The fastest way to add anything with a UPC — books, LEGO sets, Funkos, board games, video games.

Klepto’s barcode scanner does the boring work: it reads the UPC, EAN, or ISBN, looks up the product, and fills in the name, category, details, and cover image.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Tap Scan in the bar at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Point the camera at the barcode. Klepto locks on and looks it up.
  3. Check the card. Name, category, details, and catalog photos are filled in. Tap Edit to change anything, or Wishlist to file it as something you want instead.

  1. If Klepto asks “Which version do you have?”, pick the one on your shelf.

  1. Tap Add to Collection. The item lands in its category and shows up in Recently Added.

On Mac

The Mac app has no camera scanner. Add an item and type the barcode into the Barcode / Number field — Klepto looks it up the same way.

Tips

  • Barcode scans are unlimited on the free tier.
  • If the barcode isn’t in any catalog, Klepto offers to identify the item from a photo instead.
  • Wrong match? Tap wrong item? on the card and Klepto learns from it.
  • If you already own the item, Klepto tells you and offers to add another instead of creating a duplicate.
